First I was two, then I became one

First I was two, then I became one,

attaching myself to the nearest thing

I could find. I heard her voice,

I’m pregnant,

then on cue, pop! I split into two

while also staying one.

Then I split again, and again, and again,

and again and again and again again again again,

then I was too big and I had to leave.

I left from one embrace to another

and became two again,

tearing her open/splitting her into two, but she held me

and loved me anyways because we were one.

We were one until I got bigger and bigger and bigger

and stood on my own two feet, reaching for more and

further the more I took my own steps,

but she pulled me back by the tether keeping us one,

fearing that if I went too far we’d split into two. But I kept floating

further and further away,

trying to reach more and more to bring back to her,

but she yanked harder and harder and

I ran faster and faster

until the tension became too much and

snap! I/we split again

and I was left desperately clinging for something to attach to.
